Central Michigan University is seeking an Executive Director for Faculty and Staff Employment Services within the College of Medicine. This highly visible leadership role involves overseeing faculty affairs and human resource activities, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and managing a team to provide effective employment services.

Responsibilities

Provides direct supervision and management of the College of Medicine Faculty and Staff Services (CMED F&SS) office. This includes coaching, mentoring, and managing the performance of direct report staff members, ensuring that the proper levels of staffing and the workflow assignments within the staff are appropriate, and that the office’s processes and procedures are effective, compliant, and responsive to client service
Serves as a subject matter expert and consultant to managers and executive leadership in CMED regarding faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure of medical faculty and appointment/reappointment of community educators and external partner faculty. This includes providing specific consultation on complex faculty and staff issues and working with the Human Resources Department/Faculty Personnel Services to ensure the successful implementation, interpretation, and application of CMU’s human resources policies and practices
Oversees and improves CMED’s faculty and staff onboarding, orientation, and appointment/reappointment processes
Provides consultation and best practice recommendations to the advancement committee, the dean, and others regarding matters related to appointment, reappointment, promotion, tenure, post tenure review, and faculty evaluations
Updates CMED’s faculty handbook and manual to include new and revised processes and procedures for faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion and advancement, and tenure
Maintains a database and personnel files of all faculty appointed within CMED
Serves a key role in addressing employee relations issues and concerns within CMED and partnering with CMU’s Human Resources, Faculty Personnel Services, and Office of Civil Rights and Institutional Equity, to ensure all employee relations issues and concerns are addressed and resolved consistent with CMU policies, practices, and collective bargaining agreements
Provides oversight of HIPAA workforce training and compliance while working with the CMU HIPAA Privacy Officer to ensure HIPAA policies and procedures are implemented in CMU’s clinics
Develops and maintains the Department of Faculty and Staff Services budget
Promotes a commitment to creating and maintaining a welcoming and considerate community
Oversees staff professional development and employee recognition programs
Performs other professional duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, management, or other field directly relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the position
Eight years of professional-level faculty or staff services experience
Prior supervisory and management-level experience
Demonstrated ability to deliver a broad array of employment type services in a complex organization such as a college of medicine, university, or health care system
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of a large, complex organization and to be a strong advocate and leader in process improvement as related to faculty and staff service delivery
Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrated team-oriented leadership style
Ability to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred

Master's degree or in lieu of, a relevant and recognized human resources professional certification (e.g., SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP)
Experience in a higher education, governmental, or other non-profit setting
Experience in a health affairs setting
