Responsibilities

The ability to work with both structured and unstructured datasets (e.g. text, geospatial, network data)
The ability to write clean code to integrate data science services with business intelligence tools
Strong project management and interpersonal skills are required
Qualification
Required
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in '2' above
Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in '1' and '2' above
Experience with Python and machine learning
The ability to work with both structured and unstructured datasets (e.g. text, geospatial, network data)
The ability to write clean code to integrate data science services with business intelligence tools
Strong project management and interpersonal skills
Preferred
Experience designing and developing full-stack software applications using Python, SQL, and/or R
Experience designing and developing statistical and machine learning models (e.g. scikit-learn, statsmodels, PyTorch)
Ability to design and develop metrics to measure business objectives and improve the operational effectiveness of the Department
Ability to design and develop data visualizations and business communication for department leadership to improve organizational decision making (e.g. Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib)
Ability to work with unstructured data, such as text, geospatial, and network data is preferred (e.g. NLTK, GeoPy, networkx)
Ability to write clean and simple code to automate business tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS, and PowerBI is preferred
Knowledge and understanding of criminal justice policy and research literature is preferred
