Interim Human Resources Manager

LHH is a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Baltimore, MD, known for its welcoming, collaborative culture. They are seeking an Interim HR Manager to oversee day-to-day HR operations, talent acquisition activities, and employee engagement initiatives during a 3-month assignment.

Responsibilities

Lead and oversee HR day-to-day operations, ensuring processes are efficient, compliant, and employee-focused
Manage HR inbox and respond to employee inquiries with timely, professional guidance
Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth employee experience
Maintain HR records, support audit preparation, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
Track and report on HR metrics, staffing data, and compliance-related documentation
Lead recruitment efforts in partnership with hiring managers, including sourcing, reviewing, and evaluating candidates
Oversee pre-offer checks, including background, degree/license verifications, references, and assessments
Coordinate interviews and guide managers through the selection process
Ensure recruitment processes meet compliance and reporting standards
Design, implement, and support employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs, events, and communications
Partner with leadership to plan and execute organization-wide projects, all-staff meetings, and continuing education sessions
Provide guidance to managers on HR policies, performance management, and employee relations matters
Serve as a key HR resource to leaders and staff, offering advice and problem-solving support
Support special HR projects and initiatives as assigned
Ensure HR processes and communications reflect the organization’s culture and values

Required

Proven experience as an HR Manager or senior HR Generalist, including HR operations, employee engagement, and talent acquisition leadership
Strong Excel and data management skills (managing large datasets, VLOOKUPs, reporting across systems)
Highly detail-oriented with experience in audit-ready or regulated environments (government-funded or nonprofit experience preferred)
Excellent judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential information
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Comfortable working in a hybrid environment; onsite Thursdays required, with additional days as needed for events or audits
Proactive, hands-on mindset with the ability to lead projects and collaborate across teams
