Junior Data Scientist
The New York City Police Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in New York City through community partnership and law enforcement. They are seeking a highly motivated Junior Data Scientist to join the Office of Management Analysis and Planning (OMAP), focusing on developing data science services to solve Department challenges and improve decision-making processes.

Responsibilities
Develop data science services that solve Department challenges
Harmonize analysis and research to advise leadership on policy and improve Department decision making
Experience with Python and machine learning
Ability to work with both structured and unstructured datasets (e.g. text, geospatial, network data)
Ability to write clean code to integrate data science services with business intelligence tools
Strong project management and interpersonal skills are required

Experience with Python and machine learning

Preferred
Experience developing full-stack software applications using Python, DQL, and/or R
Ability to develop statistical and machine learning models (e.g. scikit-learn, statsmodels, PyTorch)
Ability to develop metrics to measure business objectives and improve the operational effectiveness of the Department
Ability to develop data visualizations and business communication for department leadership to improve organizational decision making (e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib)
Ability to work with unstructured data, such as text, geospatial, and network data (e.g. NLTK, GeoPy, networkx)
Ability to write clean and simple code to automate business tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS, and Power BI
Excellent oral, written, analytic, organizational, and interpersonal skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Ability to work both independently and on a team
Ability to work cross-functionally to strengthen relationships with internal stakeholders, agencies, and academic institutions
Knowledge and understanding of criminal justice policy and research literature
