Fire Protection Engineer - Fire Department
The City of Phoenix Fire Department is looking to hire a Fire Protection Engineer. This role involves reviewing building plans, inspecting existing structures for fire code compliance, and assisting in the development of fire protection codes.

Responsibilities
Provides technical assistance to architects, contractors, Engineers, and other private industry professionals in interpreting and complying with fire codes and standards
Provides technical advice to architects, contractors, engineers, and other private industry professionals while conducting system plans review, monitoring code information, and conducting site inspections for new construction projects
Recommends changes in fire codes
Reviews construction site plans and building plans for compliance with fire protection codes and standards
Evaluates the fire resistance of buildings and structures
Determines whether water availability and water delivery systems are adequate to protect buildings
Evaluates the storage, handling, and usage of flammable and combustible materials, and hazardous materials for compliance with fire codes, standards, and other regulations
Evaluates process engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and other documentation for compliance with fire codes, standards, and regulations
Evaluates alternate means and methods for achieving code compliance
Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity
Qualification
Required
One year of experience in fire protection engineering
OR two years structural plan and code compliance review that includes fire suppression systems
AND a bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering or a related field
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage

Fire prevention plan review/inspection experience
Fire Protection System Inspection and Testing Experience OR NICET II Certification
NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist
One or more of the following certifications or licenses: Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering, NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), ICC Fire Plans Examiner (FPE) certification
Experience as an ICC-certified Fire Plans Examiner
