The role involves various forest and prairie management activities, as well as operating equipment necessary for resource management tasks.

Responsibilities
Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance at a specified location in order to perform assigned tasks
Assists the Black Hawk County Conservation personnel with the following:
1. Forest management activities including timber stand improvement, invasive species removal, tree plantings, tree maintenance and tree harvests
2. Prairie management activities including field/site preparation, planting seed, mowing maintenance, and prescribed burns
3. Implementing the Landowner Assistance Program, which includes planning, ordering trees and seed, and planting
Operates equipment such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, sprayers, and any other equipment and tools deemed applicable to complete tasks
Any other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa driver's license and be insurable under county guidelines
Must be a current student with at least 2 years of college level education in Natural Resource Management, Fish/Wildlife Management, Forestry or related fields
Some knowledge or willingness to be trained in the operation of heavy equipment, vehicles, power and hand tools necessary for resource management activities
Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and a professional demeanor
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain good public relations
