Director of Education and Programs
HistoryMiami Museum is seeking a Director of Education and Programs to lead the development and implementation of the museum's educational vision. This role involves creating inclusive and engaging educational programs that reflect the diverse needs of Miami's communities and fostering curiosity and community connection through innovative learning approaches.

Responsibilities
Shape and implement a museum-wide education and engagement strategy that aligns with HistoryMiami’s mission and vision
Design and oversee educational programs—including school tours, family days, workshops, and public events—that reflect community interests and inspire curiosity and lifelong learning
Incorporate design thinking, digital tools, and interactive approaches to foster participatory learning experiences
Collaborate with historians, curators, artists, and community leaders to develop programs that make exhibitions and programs more accessible and relevant
Develop high-quality curricular materials and teacher resources aligned with Florida state standards and local educational priorities
Supervise education and program staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture
Oversee the development of exhibition-related learning materials, including gallery guides, teacher resources, and digital content such as multimedia tools and online resources
Partner with the Development team to identify funding opportunities, produce compelling grant applications, and ensure compliance with all grant obligations related to educational programming, including reporting on outcomes, aligning with funding goals, and providing necessary documentation for grant applications and renewals
Evaluate program effectiveness in collaboration with the Director of Visitor Services and Engagement, using visitor feedback and data to refine future initiatives for continuous improvement
Manage the education staff and budget, ensuring programs are cost-effective while maintaining high educational standards
Serve as a museum ambassador in community forums, education networks, and professional gatherings
Support the museum’s mission by developing content that authentically reflects Miami’s diverse communities and rich history
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in Museum Education, Education, Public History, Art History, or a related field substantial relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a graduate degree
At least five years of experience in museum work, public programming, or learning design within cultural institutions or formal/informal learning environments, or equivalent professional experience
Demonstrated success in curriculum development, program leadership, and public engagement
Strong understanding of learner-centered pedagogies and culturally responsive practices
Strong knowledge of current trends in museum education, audience engagement, and digital storytelling
Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, particularly in leading cross-functional teams
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences
Experience with digital tools, multimedia learning, and interactive programming
Excellent project management and communication skills
Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage budgets effectively
Preferred
Background in community-based or cross-cultural education
Experience collaborating with artists, performers, or interdisciplinary teams
Creative thinker with a passion for innovation and public impact
Skilled at fostering meaningful connections between visitors and exhibitions, utilizing storytelling techniques and participatory learning approaches
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects, budgets, and teams simultaneously, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of programs and materials
Ability to analyze program effectiveness using visitor data and feedback, and to refine strategies for continuous improvement in engagement and learning outcomes
Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate the museum's educational mission, engage diverse stakeholders, and represent the institution at professional forums
Dedication to integrating diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion principles into program development, with a focus on reflecting Miami's rich cultural diversity
