Data Movement Engineer (Snowflake) - Contractor

Nesco Resource is supporting a large organization in the middle of a major data platform modernization. They are seeking a Data Movement Engineer (Snowflake) to lead the design, optimization, and support of Snowflake-based data solutions that power analytics, reporting, and enterprise decision-making.

Responsibilities

Lead the full lifecycle of Snowflake data operations: monitoring, troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement
Design, build, and optimize Snowflake pipelines, transformations, and data models
Translate business and technical requirements into Snowflake-native data movement solutions
Develop and tune advanced SQL, warehouses, and storage strategies for performance and scalability
Implement best practices across ingestion, transformation, security, and data modeling
Support advanced patterns including CDC and SCD Type 2
Work with Data Vault and dimensional modeling frameworks
Provide production support across Snowflake, IBM DB2, and orchestration tools (Airflow, ESP)
Perform root cause analysis on data issues, pipeline failures, and performance degradation
Lead data quality initiatives including validation, reconciliation, lineage, and governance
Partner closely with data architects, engineers, analysts, and application teams
Provide technical leadership, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior engineers
Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and production support playbooks
Contribute to architecture decisions, effort estimates, and long-term platform improvements
Participate in on-call or after-hours support as needed
Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline failures and performance issues in ETL and Snowflake environments
Thoroughly test all production solutions prior to implementation
Perform root cause analysis of data discrepancies, latency, and integrity issues
Collaborate with other teams to implement fixes and preventive measures
Perform data quality analysis, report issues, and propose solutions
Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems
Implement validation and reconciliation checks within pipelines
Support data governance initiatives including metadata management and lineage tracking
Lead the design, development, and maintenance of Snowflake processes
Coordinate with business stakeholders, data architects, and application teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions
Communicate issue status, impact, and resolution timelines effectively
Maintain comprehensive documentation for all Snowflake-related issues, fixes, and scripts, ensuring they are version-controlled and aligned with data architecture and security standards
Develop and maintain production support playbooks and detailed ticket resolution procedures to enable consistent and efficient incident handling
Prepare effort estimations and contribute to architectural decisions
Provide regular updates and reports on issue trends and improvement initiatives

Required

5+ years in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics engineering roles
Strong Snowflake expertise (development, optimization, security, modeling); certification a plus
Advanced SQL skills across platforms such as Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, and/or DB2
Experience with cloud data platforms and modern data architectures
Working knowledge of CDC, SCD Type 2, and enterprise data modeling techniques
Familiarity with Data Vault and dimensional modeling
Experience supporting production data environments and incident management
Proficiency with orchestration tools like Airflow or ESP
Comfort with scripting (Python, Shell) and version control (Git)
Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, or similar tools
Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mentality, and ability to work independently
Excellent communication, documentation, and time-management skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Preferred

Background supporting large-scale Snowflake environments
Experience in modernization or cloud migration initiatives
Exposure to CI/CD for data platforms
Passion for mentoring and influencing technical direction
