Accounting Manager – Public Accounting Leadership Role
Confidential is a growing, forward-thinking CPA firm seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead their monthly accounting practice. This key leadership role involves managing a bookkeeping and accounting team, overseeing client accounting work, and enhancing internal systems for quality service delivery.

Responsibilities
Oversee general accounting functions including general ledger, AP, AR, journal entries, and payroll
Review monthly financial statements prepared by staff, including balance sheets and profit and loss statements
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with firm standards across all monthly accounting engagements
Address review notes, corrections, and workflow improvements with staff
Manage and mentor a small team of bookkeeping and accounting staff
Provide training, feedback, and guidance to develop staff skills and accountability
Assist with hiring and onboarding as the accounting department grows
Foster a culture of quality, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Lead onboarding for new monthly accounting clients, including historical cleanup and coordination with tax needs
Establish and document client-specific procedures aligned with firm standards
Ensure smooth transitions from onboarding to recurring monthly work
Propose improvements to monthly accounting workflows, review processes, and internal documentation
Collaborate with firm management and partners on system changes and implementation
Help build scalable processes that support firm growth while maintaining service quality
Maintain awareness of relevant tax considerations impacting client accounting
Collaborate with the tax team as needed on client matters
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
Minimum of 7+ years of experience in public accounting
Minimum of 3+ years in a managerial or supervisory role within a public accounting firm
Demonstrated experience reviewing and managing the work of accounting or bookkeeping staff
Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop required; experience with UltraTax CS preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
High level of professionalism, diligence, and attention to detail
Comfortable working in a cloud-based accounting environment
Tech-savvy with the ability to learn and adopt new tools and workflows
Interest in using technology to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
Preferred
CPA preferred
Experience with UltraTax CS preferred
Experience leveraging automation, workflow tools, or AI-powered accounting solutions preferred but not required
