Systems Engineering Internship

Responsibilities
Supporting the design and testing of retrofit circuit breaker mounting arrangements
Creating and updating 3D models of legacy switchgear cubicles and producing 2D drawings for prototype and vendor-supplied parts
Scanning components for dimensional analysis and qualifying prototype parts ahead of type testing
Supporting rapid prototyping efforts, including 3D printing fixtures and assisting with prototype assembly
Participating in hands-on testing of new design concepts and documenting results
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Candidates must not graduate prior to September 2026
Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the 12-week summer internship
Prior experience as a Siemens Smart Infrastructure Electrification & Automation intern
Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide relocation support
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
Preferred
Experience with 3D modeling or drafting tools (NX or SolidWorks)
Exposure to 2D drafting for vendor or prototype parts
Familiarity with measuring or metrology techniques
Coursework in statics; heat transfer coursework is a plus
Ability to communicate technical information across disciplines
Interest in hands-on prototyping and testing
