Summer Intern - Advanced UX Engineering
HARMAN International is a global, multi-disciplinary team focused on transforming technology for the automotive industry. The Advanced User Experience Engineer intern will contribute to creating innovative consumer experiences by designing multisensory in-car experiences and collaborating with various teams to prototype and document new user experiences.

Responsibilities
Creative design of multisensory in-car experience using sound, light, mechanics, haptics, and more
Integrate with audio, software, lighting, design, and innovation teams to receive components and systems and define user experiences consolidating them
Prototype new in-car experiences and document as product opportunities
Research new audio, acoustic, and AI technology opportunities and fold them into new concepts and prototypes
Document user stories and experiences and define new innovations with brand teams
Research automaker and consumer pain points and drive innovative solutions in concept/product design
Work with sales and customer teams to understand and design solutions for customer needs
Create new brand experiences across Harman’s entire house of brands
Collaborate with UI and industrial designers and acoustic engineers to craft new user interfaces and experiences
Collaborate with internal teams within EPIC, Car Audio, Automotive, and all other divisions of Harman and Samsung
Qualification
Required
Audio engineering and technical skills (example: signal flow design, sound card configuration, acoustic, electronic, computer, and/or software engineering)
Must have passion and interest in the audio engineering space
Must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to confidently interact and present information to senior leaders and executives
Must have strong collaboration abilities with interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Persistence and troubleshooting/problem-solving skills
Must be currently enrolled in a related Bachelor's Degree program or higher at an accredited institution having completed your Sophomore year or later, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter before participation in the internship program, and returning to school for at least one semester upon completion of the internship program
Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA
Be willing to work in a hybrid office environment in Novi, Michigan
Able to provide your own housing and transportation to/from work
Must possess unrestricted work authorization
Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
Must provide full work availability from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026 and be able to work 40 hours per week
Preferred
Automotive business & engineering landscape knowledge
Experience or education in any of the following fields: audio, acoustics, human factors, user experience design, system engineering, system integration, automotive networking, AI/ML engineering, computer science, or product development
Creativity and creative spirit that merges art with science to create unique brand experiences
Knowledge of acoustic theory, sound reproduction, and sound system tuning
Passion for automotive industry, experiences, and technologies
Knowledge of recording arts and technologies
Strong recommendations from colleagues or mentors in the academic or industrial domains
