NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Program Associate to support the Willowbrook Consumer Advisory Board. Responsibilities

Participate in annual, semiannual and other designated team meetings while acting "in loco parentis" for Willowbrook Class Members not represented by parents, relatives or guardians as well as those who have requested representation
Evaluating individuals' needs and interests
Evaluate the appropriateness of proposed residential setting, and educational/vocational program services
Monitor protection from harm
Monitor the quality of ongoing service provisions for individuals
Assist local parent advisory groups in fulfilling their responsibilities
Participate in community and parent education programs
Establish and maintain contact with local parent/consumer organizations

Required

bachelor's degree in a human services field
at least three years' experience working with and for persons with developmental disabilities

Preferred

knowledge of the Willowbrook Permanent Injunction
knowledge of current service provisions including OPWDD regulations, applicable federal regulations and care coordination entities
knowledge of the nature, needs and rights of persons with developmental disabilities
familiarity with normalization as a practice
knowledge of community resources, services and programs
understanding of group dynamics
experience with or knowledge of voluntary associations as well as OPWDD services
knowledge and skills in monitoring and evaluating programs
familiarity with the Willowbrook Permanent Injunction
