Marketing Director
Intercos Group is a distinguished Italian company with a legacy in the cosmetics industry. The West Coast Strategic Marketing Director will accelerate growth for the indie beauty client cluster by strengthening customer engagement, expanding market share, and driving product innovation through collaboration with various teams.
Responsibilities
Proactively define, lead and generate new business opportunities by identifying client needs, brand gaps, and opportunities for innovation-driven growth
Lead client relationships, present and promote product offerings with a tailored, customized client approach and clear articulation of benefits, technical features, and brand relevance
Partner with Business Development to develop persuasive pitches, customized product selections, and high-impact client presentations
Direct involvement in the definition and achievement of Sales Targets and other relevant metrics with focus on New Project Acquisitions with the selected target customer
Support client projects through formula customization, product adaptation, and alignment with R&D and Operations
Train Business Development teams on product positioning, storytelling, trend relevance, and formula attributes
Represent the company at global and local client events, presenting innovations and strengthening client relationships, driving marketing materials, samples, and product storytelling
Develop proactive, trend-led product and brand concepts to pitch existing and prospective clients
Continuously improve client experience, internal processes, and project turnaround times
Shape regional product and brand strategy based on market trends, client insights, and internal capabilities to drive growth of West Coast indie accounts
Lead annual business strategy contributions, supporting Sales budgeting through a Win/Grow/Sustain framework
Ensure strong cross-functional alignment and collaboration between Marketing, Business Development, Sales, and R&D
Influence company positioning and local strategy through deep category understanding and competitive awareness
Lead market intelligence initiatives, analyzing competitive launches, category shifts, and emerging trends to inform product and commercial strategies
Develop an ongoing understanding of key client sourcing strategies to identify whitespace and opportunities to increase share of wallet
Define annual product & brand priorities across categories, clients, and strategic growth segments
Conduct data deep dives, gather consumer insights, and develop comprehensive product innovation briefs for global and local innovation plans
Lead the evolution of the U.S. “Ready-to-Go” portfolio, ensuring it reflects market needs and competitive benchmarks while delivering financial performance in terms of GM target adherence
Proactively identify portfolio gaps and expansion opportunities by analyzing trends, client requests, and competitive movements
Work with R&D to customize existing formulas, generate new textures and shades, and adapt packaging to create client-ready product stories that drive incremental sales
Translate client needs into actionable product development briefs, ensuring feasibility and alignment with manufacturing capabilities, partnering with the local lab to build customized samples, develop technical claims, and prepare compelling marketing documentation
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or Masters in Business, Marketing, Sales, or related field
8–12+ years of experience in marketing, product development, or commercial roles within beauty
Track record of driving revenue growth and managing cross-functional initiatives
Strong understanding of beauty and personal care manufacturing (makeup expertise is preferred), formulation science, packaging, regulatory considerations, and product lifecycles
Experience in B2B or private-label manufacturing environments is strongly preferred
Ability to develop and execute sales, marketing, and product strategies that drive growth
Proven leadership in cross-functional environments, influencing without authority
Strong business and financial acumen, including budgeting and P&L understanding
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving change in a fast-paced environment
Balanced strategic thinker and creative problem-solver with hands-on execution capabilities
Strong presentation and storytelling abilities, delivering persuasive product pitches to senior-level
Outstanding client-facing communication skills, being able to simplify complex technical info
Ability to manage difficult client conversations, resolve conflicts, and lead crisis communications with professionalism and composure
Skilled in active listening to translate client needs into actionable product development briefs
High emotional intelligence with the ability to build trust, credibility, and long-term client relationships
Strong creative intuition with an ability to turn beauty, fashion, cultural, and consumer trends into compelling product concepts
Skilled in developing 360º product experiences (claims, positioning, naming, GTM narratives)
Ability to research broadly, brainstorm conceptually, and synthesize inspiration into actions
Analytical thinker with strong forecasting, modeling, and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to interpret market data and translate insights into actionable strategic recommendations
Skilled user of insight platforms (Nielsen, IRI, NPD, etc.)
Demonstrated success leading end-to-end product development projects
Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple complex workstreams simultaneously
Strong communicator across functions, with a collaborative and proactive way of working
Ability to independently remove obstacles and drive project completion
High emotional intelligence and relationship-building abilities
Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, trend-driven environment
Strong collaboration skills within multicultural teams
Curious, resourceful, and proactive with strong ownership and urgency
Fluent in English; Italian is a strong plus
Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, and Excel
Domestic and Internal Travels on a need-by basis
Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote
