Creative Fabrication Design Detailer/Drafting Design Detailer

They are seeking a Creative Fabrication Designer/Detailer who will be responsible for translating creative ideas into accurate, buildable designs and detailed fabrication drawings that guide projects from concept through production.

Responsibilities
Collaborate directly with designers, fabricators, and project managers to refine designs, and resolve fabrication challenges
Translate conceptual designs into accurate, buildable geometry while accounting for material behavior, tolerances, and machine constraints
Contribute creative problem-solving while maintaining budget, timeline, and material constraints
Develop fabrication strategy documents to be submitted for client approval
Iterate designs based on client, fabrication, and real-world feedback to improve fit, finish, and constructability
Develop detailed shop and installation drawings for one-off and low volume custom fabrication
Compile project specific BOM
Update models/drawings to maintain as-built details throughout fabrication process
Work closely with fabricators, welders, carpenters, artists, and project managers to ensure build accuracy
Support prototyping, mockups, and fabrication troubleshooting
Participate in design reviews and production meetings as needed
Support fabrication and installation phases by addressing field and logistic conditions and adjusting designs as needed
Qualification
Required
Proven experience in fabrication design, detailing, or production drafting
Strong understanding of materials such as wood, metal, plastics, composites, and finishes
Proficiency in CAD and design software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, SketchUp, or similar)
Ability to read and create technical drawings and shop-ready documentation
Excellent attention to detail and spatial understanding
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across creative and production teams
Preferred
3+ years professional experience in experiential/interactive design, exhibits, events, retail displays, scenery, custom fabrication, or bachelor's degree in mechanical/structural engineering/related technical field
Knowledge of CNC, laser cutting, waterjet, or other digital fabrication processes
Familiarity with structural considerations and basic engineering principles
Experience working in or alongside a fabrication shop
