Responsibilities

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for mechanical design of new and mature medium caliber weapon systems
Applies mechanical design knowledge to ensure design of gun systems and associated components meets design standards for function, fit, and safety
Works with design, project manufacturing, and quality engineers though the development process
Adheres to and maintains Northrop Grumman’s engineering process to include concept through production design and design standards
Presents work at design reviews and program technical reviews
Reviews engineering designs and drawings for tolerances, surface finishes, dimensions, material selection, processing, heat treat etc., and initiates engineering change orders as required
Applies engineering knowledge in the investigation and solution of complex technical problems
Supports manufacturing trade studies and early supplier involvement
Works effectively with minimal supervision
Position may require occasional travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers

Required

Bachelor's degree in STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) plus 5 years of relevant experience in an engineering position
Major in mechanical engineering is highly desired
Proficiency with MS Office applications
U.S. Citizenship
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred

Experience with engineering tools or software such as Ansys, Teamcenter/NX, Matlab
Self-motivated and enjoys hands-on work
Mechanically inclined – ability to understand and work with tools and machinery
