Development Analyst

Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County is the first food bank in California, dedicated to providing nourishment to the community. The Development Analyst will oversee and optimize donor database systems, ensuring data integrity while supporting fundraising efforts and enhancing donor engagement strategies.

Responsibilities

Maintain and oversee Second Harvest’s development database systems (Classy and Virtuous); ensuring accuracy, consistency, and security of donor records
Utilize analytics tools to create usable dashboards for the organization to see meaningful data at a glance
Develop key reports, analysis and insights to track donor trends and behavioral patterns
Develop and maintain standardized data entry and reporting procedures
Generate regular and ad hoc reports to support fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, board reports, and financial reconciliation
Provide training and support to staff on database best practices, queries, and reporting tools
Conduct regular data hygiene, including de-duplication, address updates, and record audits
Stay current on emerging trends, tools, and best practices for nonprofit donor data management
Identify prospective individual and corporate gift prospects through proactive research
Research donor information/giving history/background/wealth to provide insight to CEO, Board or CDO
Manage donor search tool(s) to make prospect assignments to support effective cultivation and solicitation efforts
As assigned, represent Second Harvest with the utmost professionalism at community and networking functions (Rotary, Chamber events, and other service-based organizations), which will require occasional evening and weekends
Assist with special events, press conferences, speaking opportunities, food bank tours, etc. as needed including accepting and tracking RSVPs, maintaining guest lists, and assisting with set-up and post-event duties
Work with community team to set up and manage team pages for various year round campaigns including Holiday Food and Fund Drive

Required

2-4 years of experience managing a donor database or CRM system, preferably in a nonprofit setting
A BA/BS degree from an accredited educational institution, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
Strong technical skills with database management systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
Ability to take initiative, coordinate with others, meet deadlines and follow through in fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, presentation and networking skills
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to train and support staff with varying levels of technical expertise
Ability to work as a part of a team to promote the vision and mission of Second Harvest
Ability to interact positively with a diverse community of staff and volunteers
Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and verbal presentations
Ability to handle confidential information
Commitment to serving vulnerable populations and ending hunger in Santa Cruz County
Demonstrate ethical business practices, in conformance with all state and federal laws and regulations

Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation: Able to hear conversations on the phone and in-person; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations; must be able to sit at a desk or in a vehicle for long periods of time to perform certain job functions; be able to read, write, and interpret written reports, documents and manuals; able to safely lift or carry items weighing up to 20 pounds; bi-manual dexterity and able to use a computer keyboard; frequent standing and sitting throughout the day; use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment, including laptop computer and motor vehicle; climb up or down stairs; the person in this position needs to occasionally walk to various community event site locations
Given the front-line nature of our work, there will be instances where staff are required to work a flexible schedule in order to respond to community needs. Advanced notice will be provided
In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, Second Harvest is considered an essential service and emergency responder; all its employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties
