Controller - Fractional - Hybrid - 30 hours per week
George Howell Coffee Company is an artisan, small-batch coffee roaster located just outside of Boston, MA. They are seeking a Controller to manage accounting and financial operations for their manufacturing coffee roasting and retail café businesses while leading a team of four accounting professionals.

Responsibilities
Manage the accounting and financial operations for the manufacturing coffee roasting and retail café businesses
Lead the accounting team in payroll, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and bank reconciliations
Ensure timely and accurate month-end closing in accordance with GAAP
Review and complete monthly reporting packages in a timely manner
Develop and maintain monthly financial reporting package and KPI’s to be reviewed with leadership including café managers
Prepare the annual budgets and forecast updates by working closely with department management
Manage cash flows with forecasts, including routine reports and advising senior management of cash needs
Coordinate with the manufacturing team on various reports, including cost accounting, inventory valuation, obsolete inventory, and opportunities for reducing costs
Review and negotiate vendor contracts and ensure detailed monitoring and adherence post-execution
Maintain and further develop the Company’s accounting practices, procedures, and initiatives
Evaluate the company’s current cost accounting processes and recommend and implement improvements
Evaluate and document the company’s current purchasing process for the purpose of identifying areas of improvement
Coordinate with tax accountant for annual K-1’s and tax strategies
Qualification
Required
BS/BA degree in Accounting or Business
Prior Accounting/Finance Experience in the manufacturing and/or restaurant/cafe industry
Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Applications
Advanced experience with QuickBooks Enterprise
Working knowledge of system integrations required
Excellent analytical, data-manipulation, problem-solving, and communication skills
Expertise with managing and mentoring a team of professional accountants
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to seek resources as needed
Is an effective communicator at all levels
Hands-on payroll, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and bank reconciliations experience and ability to lead the accounting team in these areas
Solid experience in company consolidation process and ability to leverage technical tools to streamline the consolidation process
Ensure timely and accurate month-end closing in accordance with GAAP
Review and completion of monthly reporting packages in a timely manner
Develop and maintain monthly financial reporting package and KPI's to be reviewed with leadership including café managers
Prior experience with inventory-related activities is required
Solid working knowledge of Profit and Loss (P&L), Balance Sheet (BS), and Cash Flow forecasting and analysis
Prepare the annual budgets and forecast updates by working closely with department management
Manage cash flows with forecasts, including routine reports and advising senior management of cash needs
Coordinate with the manufacturing team on various reports, including cost accounting, inventory valuation, obsolete inventory, and opportunities for reducing costs
Ability to review and negotiate vendor contracts and, upon execution, ensure detailed monitoring and adherence
Maintain and further develop the Company's accounting practices, procedures, and initiatives
Evaluate the company's current cost accounting processes and recommend and implement improvements
Evaluate and document the company's current purchasing process for the purpose of identifying areas of improvement
Coordinate with tax accountant for annual K-1's and tax strategies
