SUNY Maritime College is seeking a First Engineer for the TS EMPIRE STATE Ship. The role involves overseeing maintenance and operation of the vessel's systems, mentoring cadets, and teaching courses in the engine license curriculum.

Responsibilities
Perform all required Watchstanding, maintenance and repair of a diesel electric training vessel's systems as assigned by the Chief Engineer
Operate/maintain High Voltage Propulsion and HV power generation with passenger ship type systems
Operate, manage and perform assigned duties of a Computerized Maintenance Management System
Operate, manage and perform assigned duties of a Safety Management System
Participation on Summer Sea Term (SST) would be required for at least one half of the SST (Cruise A or Cruise B) with duties to include training and development of cadets onboard the ship during SST's by a subject matter expert capable of mentoring 600 cadets that go on SST
Advise and mentor cadets in the engine license program
Advise the Indoctrination Program and works with Cadet IDO leadership to develop MUG engineering training programs during the academic semesters
Manage the Cadet Work Program with Cadet Engine Rates and Ship's crew to accomplish M&R goals
Present appropriate character and strong ethics through disciplined behavior and professional appearance, as a representative of SUNY Maritime College. The position entails the daily shaping of the future leaders of global industries and the military, including those specializing in the Maritime profession, and the transportation and business sectors; As such this position requires the individual to maintain the highest standards of conduct and appearance, as well as actively leading and managing the development and maturation of the license cadets
Support the cooperation between the ship, the regiment, academia and the professional development programs
When necessary, assist the TSES Engine Dept with the Dean of Admissions to recruit potential students including Open Houses and other events to showcase the College and in particular the engine training program on the ship
Teach up to three courses in the Engine license curriculum each year (but no more than 9 credits) depending on the ship's operational schedule and at the discretion of the Chief Engineer
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or 10 years of Industry Experience that includes High Voltage or HV Propulsion
Active minimum grade USCG issued 1 A/E MMC with STCW endorsement with recent sailing experience as 1A/E
Experience in education, state, or large city system
Current STCW compliant MMC Medical Certificate
Valid driver's license free of major violations
Transportation Worker's Identification (TWIC) and passport for international travel
Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
Demonstrated leadership skills
Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks
Demonstrate organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong desire to work in a student-oriented environment in higher education
