Assistant Professor in Cooperative Extension, Enology

The Department of Viticulture and Enology is seeking an Assistant Professor in Cooperative Extension to conduct applied research in enology and develop outreach programs for various stakeholders in the wine industry.

Responsibilities

This is a full time (fiscal year), career-track appointment that includes the expectation that the appointee will conduct mission-oriented research and engage in extension education and outreach that advances the mission of the Department of Viticulture and Enology and UC ANR
The focus of this position will be on enology. Accordingly, applicants should have the professional background necessary to conduct original research in aspects related to the production of wine
By developing reciprocal and mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues and with various stakeholders, the candidate should become a knowledgeable partner who can provide reliable information and build research-informed networks to address issues of regional and California-wide importance
Advising and mentoring of graduate students is expected

Qualification

Ph.D. in EnologyIndependent ResearchApplied ResearchExtension TeachingProfessional CompetenceTeam-BuildingOral CommunicationWritten CommunicationLeadership SkillsOrganizational Skills

Required

Ph.D. degree in enology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, food science, microbiology, or other closely related discipline is required. Degree must be awarded by the start of the position

Preferred

Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct independent research in enology and wine processing
Ability to mentor junior researchers including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduates
Ability to obtain extramural support for research activities
Commitment to outreach and demonstrated ability or potential to extend knowledge
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present information to industry stakeholders and diverse public audiences
Evidence of leadership, team-building, and organizational skills relevant to the development of a successful research and outreach program with departmental/campus staff and faculty, extension colleagues, and government organizations
Evidence of communication skills and collegiality consistent with effective departmental, campus and professional citizenship
Record that documents productivity in research as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals
