Director/ExecutiveMondrian Alpha is a multi-billion dollar hedge fund that is transitioning AI from experimentation into a governed, production-grade capability embedded into investment workflows. The Head of AI will own the applied AI capability, focusing on defining and executing an AI roadmap, designing and building AI-enabled systems, and ensuring robust governance and compliance in AI operations.

Responsibilities
Define and execute an AI roadmap focused on measurable impact across credit research, underwriting, portfolio monitoring, risk, reporting, and internal workflows
Identify use cases where AI shortens the distance between data, insight, and capital allocation
Translate firm-wide objectives into concrete initiatives with clear success criteria and production timelines
Design and help build AI-enabled systems including LLM-powered research tools, internal copilots, monitoring and alerting workflows, and automation embedded into daily investment processes
Partner closely with senior engineers to ensure solutions sit on robust, well-governed data foundations
Remain close to implementation: architecture decisions, model selection, evaluation frameworks, deployment patterns, and iteration loops
Establish a coherent execution model for AI: consistent access paths, predictable behaviour, and firm-wide standards that allow local customisation without fragmentation
Embed privacy, security, and compliance directly into systems rather than relying on manual review or policy overlays
Maintain flexibility across models and vendors while protecting data ownership and avoiding unnecessary infrastructure sprawl
Work directly with investment professionals to understand real problems and deliver tools that are genuinely adopted
Act as the internal authority on AI, setting expectations, educating stakeholders, and guiding prioritisation
Communicate clearly with senior leadership on progress, trade-offs, risks, and opportunities
Qualification
Required
A strong engineering background with sound architectural judgement and a willingness to stay hands-on
Practical experience with LLMs, agents, APIs, or workflow automation embedded into real business processes
Comfort operating in lean environments with high ownership, ambiguity, and senior stakeholders
A commercial mindset focused on reliability, usability, and sustained impact, not novelty
