Responsibilities

Demonstrate a solid commitment to all aspects of safety and hold team accountable to uphold the same commitment
Direct and supervise employees engaged in activities including the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair of network devices, Remote Terminal Units, telecommunication circuits, two-way radios, mobile computing, and other devices
Coordinate closely with Operating Companies, FirstEnergy Transmission and Distribution support groups, and external entities, FirstEnergy Cyber Security, Security Technologies, and Real Time Operations (RTO) teams to ensure that objectives are accomplished by following FirstEnergy policies and sound security practices
Coordinate work with other departments and scheduling construction, maintenance, repair, or test work
Manage the schedule and work assigned to individuals on the team
Monitor the activities of employees and enforcing conformance to established work practices and methods, (according to Preferred Practices Manual, Accident Prevention Handbook, Safety Specifications and Construction Standards)
Counsel employees, recommending corrective actions required to meet performance standards and acknowledging good work and work habits
Implement instruction and training of employees in the established work practices and methods utilized throughout the department
Administer company and regional absenteeism management program, regional safety plan, tasks related to time off requests, time sheets, and purchasing cards
Keep abreast of industry-accepted, evolving and developing IT and Telecommunications technologies
Provide support for communications and computer equipment by receiving, resolving, documenting, and following up on trouble calls and requests for assistance
Provide leadership to team through championing process improvement and mentoring team members
Accountable to ensure team performs NERC (e.g., CIP, PRC-005) compliance related activities, such as equipment maintenance, inspections, and change management
Champion compliance for all responsible equipment and maintains strong relationships across IT, FirstEnergy Transmission and Distribution support groups, and corporate compliance teams to ensure proper application of regulatory requirements to the responsible environment
Ensure team supports planned projects and maintains scope, schedule, and budget
Provide assistance during emergencies and storm-related restoration
Respond to after-hours support calls, ensure team follows and supports on-call procedure, and travel overnight as required

Required

Bachelor or Associates Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Electronic or related field, or at least 5-8 years of work experience in a network communication/equipment field
Some supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge of field area networks and SCADA communications
Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements impacting substation and field area equipment
Demonstrated proficiency with PC software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), SAP, and various industry-standard telecommunications Network Management Systems
Ability to coach, mentor, engage and inspire people to excel in their roles
Knowledge of project management concepts and tools
Ability to manage, organize and prioritize work, while maintaining strong attention to detail
Knowledge of environmental support systems for these various technology platforms (e.g., HVAC, AC/DC power systems, batteries, generators, etc.)
Knowledge of building business cases for projects and project management (from conception to execution)
Strong interpersonal, communications, presentation, training, and mentoring skills
Solid knowledge of FirstEnergy business units, to enable effective prioritization of work based on business need
Possess a valid driver's license
Be self-motivated with a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and develop and maintain relationships
Ability to work effectively with engineering and management personnel, along with interfacing and working cooperatively with customers, contractors, and the public in a professional and courteous manner. Must meet customer needs and foster good working relationships
Demonstrated experience in creating and/or interpreting engineering drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, instruction manuals and procedures to develop accurate work plans
Effective leadership skills to communicate with and direct work of others to ensure safety and produce satisfactory work results
Must be able to work in known and unknown environments and be able to travel over developed and undeveloped terrain
