Visiting Assistant Professor of Ancient Mediterranean Studies
The University of Missouri-Columbia is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor in Ancient Mediterranean Studies for a 1-year position starting in Fall 2026. The role involves teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, conducting research, and providing service to the department and university community.
Education
Responsibilities
Teach both graduate and undergraduate courses (typically six [6] courses per academic year) to cover curricular needs in both Ancient Mediterranean Studies programs (undergraduate and graduate)
Offer Greek language courses at all levels, courses on Greek literature, history, and culture in translation, and advanced topics courses and graduate seminars in their area of expertise
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students
Provide service to the department and the broader university community
Qualification
Required
A doctorate in Classical Studies or a closely related field focusing on the Greek or Roman World completed by Aug 15, 2026 is required
Research agenda with demonstrated strength in Ancient Greek Language, Literature and Culture
Teaching experience and/or potential to contribute to the AMS curriculum at all levels
Language competencies relevant to research and teaching area
Potential for significant contribution to the mission of a public research university
Preferred
A specialization in Health Humanities or Digital Humanities would be particularly welcome
