Responsibilities
Preside Over Hearings: Conduct formal administrative proceedings, ensure fair hearings, maintain order, and manage testimonies
Evidence and Motions: Rule on preliminary motions, objections, and the admissibility of evidence
Issuing Decisions: Review evidence, analyze laws and regulations, and prepare written decisions with findings of fact and conclusions of law
Witness Management: Administer oaths, affirmations, and examine witnesses or parties
Subpoena Authority: Issue subpoenas for documents or witness testimony
Alternative Dispute Resolution: Conduct settlement conferences and mediation
Qualification
Required
Deep understanding of administrative law, regulations, and relevant statutory precedents
Strong analytical skills to evaluate evidence and high-level legal writing ability for decisions
Effective communication skills for conducting hearings and interviewing claimants
Generally requires extensive experience as an attorney practicing litigation or administrative law
