Staff Accountant (Denver/Boulder)

Rocky Mountain Institute is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their Organizational Finance team. This role involves managing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring accuracy in the general ledger while supporting various accounting functions and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

Prepare periodic and monthly journal entries
Manage the fixed asset and prepaid expenses schedules
Assist with monthly reclass process
Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
Reconcile bank statements monthly
Ensure accuracy of the general ledger
Assist with monthly financial close process
Suggest and implement process improvements
Assist and/or act as back up to all core accounting functions as needed including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management and Payroll
Assist during various audits including but not limited to preparing documentation for auditors
Support for any accounting related questions from internal and external constituents
Backup to all Assistant Controller responsibilities
Mentor and train junior accounting staff
Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment
Assist with state compliance and reporting requirements, as needed
Additional responsibilities, as required
Maintain financial security by following internal accounting controls and procedures

Required

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
1-3+ years' experience in an accounting role
Detail and service oriented with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Positive, highly motivated, and flexible with changing deadlines and workloads
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
Experience using Workday or similar accounting system

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Accounting
CPA or CPA candidate
Experience in nonprofit accounting
