Business Development & Engagement Coordinator

NEOGOV is seeking a Business Development & Engagement Coordinator to enhance business visibility and community connection in Herndon. Responsibilities

Implements assigned elements of the Town’s economic development and community engagement strategies, translating departmental goals into coordinated outreach, communication, and visibility efforts
Serves as a day-to-day contact for business support services, building relationships with local businesses and connecting them to Town departments, partner agencies, and available resources
Leads Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) efforts, including proactive outreach to local businesses, scheduling and conducting visits, identifying needs and opportunities, and accurately capturing engagement details, visit outcomes, and follow-up actions within the department’s CRM system to inform ongoing service and strategy
Coordinates business recognition events and engagement activities—including ribbon cuttings, business openings, and outreach events—to celebrate business milestones and strengthen community connections
Assists in developing and implementing business-focused programs and initiatives that enhance the Town’s economic vitality, visibility, and competitiveness
Collaborates with Communications & Economic Engagement staff to plan and develop social media content and storytelling campaigns that promote business highlights, as well as community events and Town initiatives as they relate to the Town’s business community
Serves as coordinator and content lead for the business newsletter, identifying timely topics, coordinating contributions, and aligning messaging with the Town’s strategic communication objectives
Designs and manages the distribution of business welcome packets and follow-up engagement touchpoints to support long-term retention and relationship-building
Maintains and regularly updates the Economic Development webpage and associated content within the Town’s website, ensuring information is accurate, current, and aligned with the Town’s branding and outreach standards
Supports interdepartmental collaboration on new business developments and redevelopment projects, ensuring consistent messaging and proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders
In coordination with the Economic Development Manager, partners with internal teams to identify and monitor process improvement opportunities related to permitting, licensing, and service delivery, contributes insights to enhance efficiency and customer experience
Serves as the primary liaison for collecting and coordinating business-related data from other departments—such as permitting, licensing, and inspections—to improve the accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of Town business data
Collects and maintains key performance metrics for business outreach, engagement, and marketing programs. Compiles dashboards and summaries that support departmental reporting, performance measurement, and strategic decision-making
Oversees survey design and management to assess business needs and program impacts; synthesizes findings into actionable insights and recommendations for departmental strategy
Leads the ongoing compilation, maintenance, and upkeep of the Town’s master business database, ensuring data integrity, timely updates, and the integration of new business information
Tracks engagement and program performance using measurable indicators and dashboards to evaluate outcomes and inform data-driven decision-making
Performs other related functions aligned with departmental and Town priorities

Required

High School diploma or equivalent required
At least 2 years of experience in business development, client engagement, account coordination, marketing support, or community-facing roles that involve relationship management, outreach, data tracking, and cross-organizational coordination. Experience may be gained in the public, private, nonprofit, or entrepreneurial sectors
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for business-related events
Bilingual required (English/Spanish)
Valid driver's license with acceptable record
