Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for representing the United States of America, Federal agencies, and Federal employees in a wide variety of civil cases. These can include tort claims, employment discrimination claims, bankruptcies, false claims, defending miscellaneous agency actions, and otherwise representing the United States in State and Federal courts
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress

Required

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree
Must be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction)
Must have at least 3 years of post-J.D. legal or other relevant legal experience
Proof of active bar membership is required
United States citizenship is required
Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing
Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable

Superior legal writing and research ability
Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, community involvement, and public service
Quick analytical ability and the ability to accurately articulate the critical issues involved in a case
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment
Excellent oral communication skills
Ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff and client agencies
Demonstrated capacity to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment
Excellent computer skills to include experience with automated research on the internet, electronic court filing, email and word processing systems
