Director of Finance

The Director of Finance is responsible for stewarding the financial resources, systems, and processes of the church, providing financial guidance, and supporting sound financial decision-making within the organization.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain long-range financial plans, forecasts, and sustainability models
Oversee annual budgeting processes and ongoing budget management
Monitor cash flow, reserves, and financial health to support organizational stability
Provide financial insight and recommendations to leadership for planning and growth
Ensure financial practices align with nonprofit standards and best practices
Oversee all bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity
Ensure accurate and timely monthly and year-end financial reporting
Manage QuickBooks, Expensify, credit cards, bank accounts, and reconciliations
Prepare for and oversee independent audits and financial reviews
Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and nonprofit reporting requirements
Oversee contribution processing, reconciliation, and internal controls
Ensure accuracy and integrity of donor records and giving platforms
Support financial reporting related to donor engagement and stewardship
Ensure timely and accurate contribution statements and donor communications
Partner with department leaders to develop and manage budgets
Track financial performance of events, initiatives, and ministries
Approve expenditures and monitor spending against approved budgets
Lead regular budget review meetings with leadership and department heads
Oversee payroll processing through external vendors, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Manage benefits administration including health, retirement, and related programs
Support onboarding and offboarding processes for staff and contractors
Ensure proper classification, documentation, and compliance for employees and contractors
Provide financial oversight for building purchases, renovations, and capital projects
Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and funding sources
Work with lenders, contractors, architects, and legal counsel as needed
Monitor costs and address changes in scope or bids proactively
Prepare financial reports and summaries for leadership and board review
Maintain insurance coverage, financial policies, and compliance documentation
Support vendor contracts, venue agreements, and operational financial needs
Oversee financial aspects of merchandise, coffee, and auxiliary operations

Required

10+ years of financial leadership or senior accounting experience
Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit finance, and IRS regulations
Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and audits
Experience overseeing payroll, benefits, insurance, and vendor relationships
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Expensify, and financial systems
Comfort working in a faith-based environment

Preferred

Church, nonprofit, or ministry-related experience is a plus, not required
