Benefits Specialist
LHH is seeking a Benefits Services Manager for a nonprofit organization responsible for managing and administering employee benefits and wellness programs. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, managing vendor relationships, and overseeing workers' compensation and leave management.
Responsibilities
Manage the full lifecycle of employee benefits, including new hire enrollment, annual open enrollment, life events, and benefit terminations
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations
Conduct quarterly benefit audits to ensure data integrity and implement corrective actions
Provide ACA eligibility and compliance reporting to third-party administrators
Lead the annual benefit renewal process, analyzing plan design, utilization, and cost trends
Develop benefit renewal recommendations, including employee contribution strategies aligned with best practices
Manage relationships with insurance carriers, brokers, TPAs, and consultants to ensure high service levels
Review, execute, and track benefit-related contracts and WRAP documents
Manage workers’ compensation claims, ensuring accurate recordkeeping, reporting, and coordination with providers
Oversee FMLA, disability, and workers’ compensation leaves, including employee education, documentation, payroll coordination, and return-to-work processes
Facilitate communication between employees and managers during leave transitions
Manage and support employee health and wellness programs in partnership with vendors and providers
Promote wellness initiatives through regular communications, events, benefits fairs, and educational sessions
Coordinate vendor participation and employee benefit education programs
Maintain accurate benefit records across HRIS and vendor systems
Ensure timely and accurate payroll deductions, vendor payments, and invoice reconciliation
Develop, update, and maintain benefits standard operating procedures
Prepare census, statistical, and reporting data for actuaries and insurance carriers
Ensure benefits programs integrate effectively with HR systems and reporting platforms
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field required
12–15 years of progressive experience in benefits administration and management
Demonstrated expertise in health and welfare benefits, regulatory compliance, and large employer benefit programs
Strong working knowledge of employee benefits regulations and plan design
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
High level of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); HRIS experience preferred (Banner experience a plus)
