Data Product Owner
Champlain Insurance Group is part of Glencoe Diversified Holdings, LLC, a conglomerate involved in various sectors including Insurance. The Data Product Owner will be responsible for the ownership and evolution of reporting and KPI data products, acting as the single point of accountability within an Agile data delivery model to support management and operational reporting.
Responsibilities
Own the full lifecycle of KPI and reporting data products, from concept through delivery, adoption, and ongoing optimization
Define and communicate the product backlog, data vision, roadmap, and measurable success criteria
Own prioritization decisions and make trade-offs to maximize business value
Define the ecosystem of data within CIG and then GDH. Be able to collaborate with the different stakeholders across the different business units to drive a digital data ecosystem that enables growth, scalability and repeatability across our different business units
Serve as the single point of accountability for assigned data products and programs
Own canonical KPI definitions, business rules, and calculation logic
Partner with business leaders to define the data tools, the rollout of reporting and being a few steps ahead in anticipating needs and wants from the business
Ensure consistent interpretation of KPIs across reports, dashboards, and downstream consumers
Maintain semantic and metrics layers to prevent duplication and metric drift
Resolve conflicts in KPI definitions across insurance business areas
Own and manage the product backlog, including epics, features, and user stories
Define clear acceptance criteria and data quality expectations
Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives
Accept delivered work based on defined product, quality, and governance standards
Represent the voice of the business within data engineering and analytics teams
Partner with stakeholders across Claims, Underwriting, Finance, Actuarial, Risk, and Compliance
Make informed decisions on scope, priority, and sequencing to balance speed, quality, and sustainability
Own data quality expectations, controls, and monitoring for KPI data products
Ensure data lineage, traceability to source systems, and documentation are maintained
Ensure KPI and reporting data products are audit-ready, defensible, and compliant with regulatory and internal standards
Collaborate with data governance teams to align with enterprise policies
Drive adoption of KPI and reporting data products through stakeholder engagement and enablement
Promote reuse of standardized datasets rather than bespoke reporting solutions
Define and track product success metrics including: Data quality and reliability, Adoption and usage, Stakeholder satisfaction, Time-to-insight and business impact
Operate within a domain-aligned data product model, embedded in the enterprise data platform
Collaborate closely with data engineers, BI developers, analytics teams, and governance functions
Provide guidance and informal mentoring on KPI standards and data product best practices
Qualification
Required
5–7 years of experience in the insurance industry
