Equipment Purchasing Agent
Sterling Equipment is seeking an Equipment Purchasing Agent to manage the procurement of equipment parts, materials, and services for marine and heavy equipment operations. The role involves coordinating with operations and maintenance teams to ensure timely purchasing and cost-effective sourcing to minimize equipment downtime.

Responsibilities
Purchase equipment parts, materials, supplies, and services in support of operations and maintenance teams
Obtain pricing, availability, and lead times from approved vendors and suppliers
Issue, track, and close purchase orders; follow up on deliveries, shortages, and discrepancies
Coordinate urgent and emergency purchases to support time-sensitive equipment repairs
Maintain vendor contact lists, pricing history, and purchasing records
Track commonly used parts and notify management of low inventory levels or anticipated shortages
Work with vendors and internal teams to resolve invoice or delivery issues
Support cost awareness and purchasing efficiency while maintaining quality and schedule requirements
Qualification
Required
Experience in purchasing or procurement; marine, construction, or heavy equipment experience preferred
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through
Ability to manage multiple requests and priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
Comfortable working with purchase orders, invoices, and spreadsheet-based tracking tools
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with vendors and internal teams
Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the United States
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer
Frequent use of hands and fingers for keyboarding and office equipment
Ability to read, review, and process purchase orders, invoices, and vendor documentation
Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds
Ability to visit shops, warehouses, or job sites as needed while wearing required PPE
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical if required for site access
Compliance with all company safety policies and client site requirements, including use of PPE
