Instructional Lab Manager

The University of Houston is seeking an Instructional Lab Manager to oversee the laboratory program for instructional laboratories within the Chemistry Department. Responsibilities

Selects, trains and coordinates the work of lab assistants and graduate assistants assigned to the lab
Schedules, monitors and evaluates performance of lab assistants and graduate assistants
Recommends enhancements and revisions of lab course materials to faculty
Coordinates lectures and laboratory course materials with graduate assistants and faculty
Assists faculty with development of equipment proposals
Assists students with projects and may develop industry-sponsored undergraduate laboratory projects
Manages ordering and distribution of student lab kits, supervises purchase of lab supplies
Evaluates equipment and software for use in the lab
Provides training sessions for faculty and lab assistants in the proper use of the lab, as needed
Conducts laboratory instruction under faculty supervision
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Manages the Department of Chemistry Undergraduate Stockroom, including developing and maintaining electronic inventory records
Prepares chemical solutions as needed for use in the undergraduate laboratories; removes and stores safely chemical waste generated in the laboratories for collection by the University Office of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS); ensures waste for collection is labeled per EHS regulations
Works with EHS to ensure that the Undergraduate Stockroom complies with health and safety rules and regulations; establishes and/or modifies existing safety protocols as needed to ensure the safety of the workers in the Undergraduate Stockroom
Develops and maintains an electronic manual of Standard Operating Procedures for the instructional laboratories

Required

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline
Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience
All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check
