Environmental Technician I (Temporary) (Pasquotank)

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking an Environmental Technician I to assist in the North Carolina Alosine Management Program. The technician will collect biological data from fisheries, perform fieldwork, and maintain sampling equipment while working in various environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

The technician will collect biological data from commercial and recreational fisheries
Use sampling gear, including gill nets, trawl nets, and beach seines to collect biological data from various habitats
Identify, measure, weigh, tag, and remove aging structures from finfish in the field and lab
Process aging structures, record, compile, submit, and verify biological data
Operate and conduct preventative and minor maintenance on outboard motors, boats, trailers, and trucks
Construct and repair sampling equipment including beach seines, trawl nets, and gill nets
Working independently and with others
Lifting and carrying heavy objects
The ability to swim is required

Required

Associate's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
The ability to swim is required
Field work is often strenuous in adverse cold and hot conditions
Weekend work required
Operate and conduct preventative and minor maintenance on outboard motors, boats, trailers, and trucks
Construct and repair sampling equipment including beach seines, trawl nets, and gill nets
Working independently and with others
Lifting and carrying heavy objects

Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
