Early Career Geologist
WSP is a leading engineering and professional services firm, currently seeking an Early Career Geologist for their Fresno, CA office. The role involves supporting environmental projects through field studies, report preparation, and interaction with various stakeholders, focusing on site investigation and remediation.

Responsibilities
Support a wide range of environmental and engineering projects, from conceptual site model development to design and implementation of remediation and risk management strategies
Conduct field exercises including drilling, geologic logging, well installation, sampling of various media, and hydrogeologic testing
Undertake project-based travel and site work, both within the United States and internationally. The frequency and duration of project-based travel will depend on business and client needs
Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements
Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook
Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, cross-sections, boring logs, and figures for the interpretation and/or presentation of data, findings, and/or analyses
Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks
Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of organic and inorganic compounds to determine their composition
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline
The ability to obtain professional licensure in California (PG)
Ability to commit to extended field assignments, including being away from home for multiple weeks at a time, while maintaining productivity and adaptability in various environments
Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment
Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis during the course of field work
Safely operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company
Excellent research skills with analytical mindset
Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products
Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workday/workweek
Willingness to travel for field work as dictated by project demands, which could be as much as 75% of the time and to periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs
The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately
Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam
This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request
Preferred
A Master's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline
Experience performing soil and rock logging
Experience performing soil, sediment, soil gas, and/or groundwater sampling
Familiarity with various drilling techniques and experience with installation of groundwater monitoring and/or remediation wells
Experience with software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, EQuIS, OpenGround, Rockworks, EVS, and/or Leapfrog a plus
Experience with groundwater and plume modeling software, such as Surfer, MODFLOW, MODPATH, and/or MT3DMS, and associated interface/processing packages, such as Groundwater Vistas
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120)
A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations
