Responsibilities
Performs policy research, acts as liaison between Committee and Members, Leadership, Senators, Governor's Office, and the public
Conducts legislative research, including drafting legislation, tracking of legislation on the LDPC system
Conducts policy research on issues of importance to Committee Members to identify and propose potential new legislative initiatives for introduction as legislation
Analyzes bills and amendments, produces reports to Committee Chair and Members
Serves as liaison between the Committee and Members, Leadership, Senators, Governor's Office, Executive Branch Agencies, staff and the public as needed
Assists with the processing of constituent inquiries by conducting research, drafting response letters, etc. on issues related to the Committee
Works with staff and Members to implement strategies for legislative action and public awareness on issues identified by Committee Members
Responsible for the maintenance of meeting minutes and other records of the Committee and managing Committee financial matters
Assists with media relations by developing press releases, news articles and newsletters regarding Committee issues
Performs any other work-related duties as assigned
Supervises daily activities of Research Analysts, Legislative Assistants and other staff assigned to their Committee
Trains new Committee employees
Approves/disapproves leave requests by Committee staff
Completes performance evaluations for Committee staff
Addresses complaints, informally resolves problems when possible and acts as first line in grievance resolution
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
One to two years related experience and/or training
Good knowledge of legislative process
Good knowledge of legislative issues
Strong legislative research ability
Preferred
Master's degree
Significant related work experience
