Responsibilities

Concepts and detailed design related to the application, selection, installation, failure analysis, uprating, replacement, rehabilitation and repair of mechanical systems
Working on piping systems, machine design, cranes, and related hydraulic equipment in turbines and other specialized mechanical equipment
Prepare, direct and review studies and analysis of design alternatives and determine mechanical design features to be proposed in various planning level studies and in general and detailed design memorandums
Prepare or direct the preparation of preliminary and final designs, contract plans and specifications for mechanical equipment in hydropower houses and pump stations, and scope of work statements for A-E contracts
Conduct field visits to hydroelectric power projects and manufacturing plants

Required

Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent education
Experience applying theories, concepts, principles, and methodologies of Mechanical Engineering
Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE)
Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field with at least 1 year of professional engineering experience
One year of specialized experience for GS-07 level
One year of specialized experience for GS-09 level related to hydropower
One year of specialized experience for GS-11 level designing mechanical features of power generating facilities
U.S. citizenship
Registration for Selective Service for male applicants born after December 31, 1959
Valid state driver's license at the time of appointment
Ability to complete a background investigation for suitability or fitness determination
Ability to travel for Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time
