Responsibilities

Supervise program participants (e.g., teachers, teens), including youth. This includes:
Lead Aquarium tours for program participants
Answer participant questions during educational activities in classrooms, in the field, and in the Aquarium
Assist staff with group management in the Aquarium and in the field (e.g., bus pickup, beach activities, etc.)
Troubleshooting mobile technology
Supervise, coach, and mentor teen volunteers as they interpret to Aquarium guests OR as they support Education staff in delivering educational programs to youth and/or teachers
Assist Education staff in training teen volunteers to interpret Aquarium exhibits, marine animals, and ocean ecosystems to Aquarium guests and program participants
Deliver short-term educational sessions to program participants
Acquire, organize, and prepare program supplies, including physical and digital educational materials, food, and outdoor equipment
Assist in the set-up and maintenance of technology, such as iPads and cameras
Support program staff in preparing program spaces and materials

Required

Under direct supervision, support Education program delivery for four week-long bilingual middle school camps
Provide logistical program support; coordinate the acquisition of project supplies and resources
Supervise and lead some activities with program participants
Perform other duties as assigned
Supervise program participants (e.g., teachers, teens), including youth
Lead Aquarium tours for program participants
Answer participant questions during educational activities in classrooms, in the field, and in the Aquarium
Assist staff with group management in the Aquarium and in the field (e.g., bus pickup, beach activities, etc.)

Must possess, or be able to obtain within the first 3 months of employment, a valid California driver's license in order to operate Monterey Bay Aquarium vehicles
Utilize a laptop computer, tablet, cell phone, VR headset, and other hand-held technologies
Present in classrooms (Bechtel Center for Ocean Education and Leadership, Aquarium labs, etc.) and in the field (on beaches, wetlands, forests, parks, etc.)
Comfort in the water to be able to accompany students on water events, such as tide pooling, snorkeling, and boogie boarding
Drive MBA vehicles
Standing to present for much of the day
Regularly walking and hiking indoors and outdoors
Some pushing carts of materials
Occasional unassisted lifting up to 50 lbs
Typical office environment, field work (beach and coastal shoreline), ocean

Preferred

Experience as an alumnus of the Teen Conservation Leaders volunteer program highly recommended
Experience or Interest in working with youth
Effective interpersonal skills
Effective time management skills with the ability to support multiple simultaneous projects
Flexible with changes in work priorities
Comfort using technology, including but not limited to cameras, iPad apps, Google Suite, and web-based educational tools
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Ability to work within, and maintain Monterey Bay Aquarium's Core Values
