Payroll Manager

Responsibilities

Remain current on new legislation and regulatory ruling impacting payroll. This includes taxation and section 125 deduction requirements. Enforces adherence to requirements and advise management on required actions
Provide basic information and answer questions on payroll and payroll tax matters
Audit and review data related to new hires and terminations, transfers, employee pay, taxes and statements of earnings and deductions
Coordinate with payroll vendor to prepare and submit payroll taxes. Responsible for registering for state and local tax accounts and closing unneeded accounts
Audit payrolls as they are processed to ensure changes affecting the pay period are captured
Encourage and implement continuous improvement measures within Payroll
Issue and record any necessary adjustments related to previous errors or retroactive wage and compensation changes
Manages the relationship between Payroll and General Ledger
Assure K1 contributions remain within annual limits. This includes 401(k) and Profit-Sharing contributions that span more than one year
Provide reporting of earning, withholding and deduction information using existing reports or by creating Ad Hoc reports, as needed
Prepare audit files for firm 401(k) and profit-sharing plans including non-discrimination testing. Work with provider to compete testing, resolve errors and answer questions regarding contributions and eligibility

Required

Bachelor's degree and/ a minimum of eight years of related experience processing payroll for multiple states including California
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) required
Minimum five years of experience with statutory requirements for California and payroll processing for California
Must be comfortable learning and working with technology. Strong Excel skills needed
Ability to analyze, assess possible problems and prioritize concerns
Experience in auditing tax and deduction setup in HR software and contributions to 401(k) and Deferred Compensations plans
Knowledge of 401(k) and deferred compensation plans with ability to complete analysis of annual contributions and work with providers to complete annual testing
Knowledge of both W2 and K1 tax types and ability to oversee limits and provide accurate reporting
Ability to interface with partners, associates, clients, vendors, directors, managers, and support staff

Preferred

Experience in Paylocity payroll software preferred
Experience processing payroll in a law firm setting preferred
