Assistant Counsel
The NYS Division of Human Rights is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Counsel working within the Prosecutions Office. The role involves prosecuting discrimination complaints, reviewing case files, drafting legal documents, and conducting legal research.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Prosecutes discrimination complaints on behalf of the Division under New York State Human Rights Law
Reviews case files and related documentation, interviews witnesses, prepares cases, and presents evidence at administrative hearings
Drafts legal documents, including petitions, answers and briefs, and appears for oral argument at State court proceedings
Negotiates, prepares, and submits settlement agreements
Conducts legal research and drafts guidance and legal opinions on state and federal law
Provides assistance with discovery holds, records management, and Freedom on Information Law requests
Such other duties as may be required or assigned
Qualification
Required
Candidates must have been admitted to the New York State Bar
Candidates must have had two years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar
