Freight Trader

PetroChina International (America), Inc. is seeking a Freight Trader to join their Shipping team. The role involves trading freight for crude products and petrochemicals, focusing on freight acquisition, optimization, and price-risk management.

Responsibilities

Provide market information, trends, rate forecasts, and ongoing ad hoc analysis to traders
Subject matter expert on all commercial, operational, and legal matters pertaining to spot and term charter parties; originator and ultimate owner of charter parties
Subject matter expert on all marine elements of Trading deals and related GTCs, providing guidance to contracts, legal, and trading on recommended wording, risks and opportunities
Establish and maintain working relationships with freight trading counterparties, service providers, and internal stakeholders to effectively carry out daily responsibilities
Supply/Demand analysis tracking vessel/cargo availability and trends to support freight market rates and trading opportunities
Risk management: Chartering in/out vessels; utilizing FFA and bunker hedging instruments and strategic short/long position planning. Expert level knowledge freight cost estimation methods, freight impacts, and freight risk management
Actively identify opportunities that create value for the company through cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue development, and optimization to expand both trading and shipping teams P&L
Support projects through review, analysis, and advice on existing and business development opportunities related to marine transportation due to market fluctuations and volatility
Support and participate with senior management in the formulation of strategic initiatives based on market research

Required

Minimum 5+ years demonstrated experience in chartering/freight trading, risk management, and Charter Party knowledge with oil/trading companies, ship owners or ship brokers
Strong fundamental understanding of all aspects of Wet Freight Market. Dry Bulk experience a plus
Bachelor's degree in marine Transportation, Economics, Finance, and relevant field experience
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment
Demonstrated ability to work cordially with other branch offices located across different time zones and geography
Demonstrated ability to be motivated, self-starter, innovative, collaborative (build networks and trust), entrepreneurial, forward-thinking, manage complexity, detail oriented and analytical
Thorough understanding of FFA hedging mechanism with a proven track record and experience
