Senior Software Engineer, Core Runtime, BigQuery

Responsibilities
Improve BigQuery engine to remove bottlenecks for low latency queries, design solutions that are easy to maintain and extend
Conduct tests and monitoring systems to ensure quality
Work with other BigQuery teams to reduce overhead and remove bottlenecks
Work with BigQuery and Dremel codebase, which is primarily C++ with some Java in data planes and Python for tests
Improve engineering excellence across the stack
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages
3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture
3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture
Experience in the following: database internals, query processing, performance analysis, SQL
Experience programming in C++
Preferred
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field
Experience with vectorized query runtimes, low-level systems implementation, performance analysis and optimization, and engineering for scalability, high performance, large-scale distributed systems
Experience in the following: influencing, collaboration, concurrency multithreading synchronization, distributed computing, distributed databases
Experience with database query runtimes
Experience working on performance improvement projects spanning multiple functional areas
Experience building infrastructure in Google Cloud or other cloud providers
