The State of Michigan is seeking a Forensic Records Technician to serve as the recognized resource for all laboratory-related records requests for the Forensic Science Division (FSD). This role involves processing and responding to various records requests, managing records for multiple laboratories, and providing administrative support under professional staff direction.

Responsibilities

Serve as the recognized resource for all laboratory-related records requests for the Forensic Science Division (FSD)
Process and respond to subpoena and discovery order records requests for the FSD, including case files, relevant supporting documents and/or data, and laboratory accreditation
Act as the FSD’s records management liaison for seven MSP laboratories throughout the state
Provide advanced administrative laboratory support activities under the direction of professional staff

Required

Education typically acquired through completion of high school
Departmental Technician 7: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service
Departmental Technician 8: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service
Departmental Technician 8: One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service
Departmental Technician E9: One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service
Departmental Technician E9: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service
Departmental Technician E9: Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service
Departmental Technician 10: Education typically acquired through completion of high school
Departmental Technician 10: Two years of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service
Departmental Technician 10: Two years of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service
Departmental Technician 10: Three years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced level in state service
This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police

Preferred

Departmental Technician 7: Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement
Departmental Technician 8: Possession of a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement
Departmental Technician E9: Possession of a Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement
Departmental Technician 10: Possession of a Bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience may be substituted for the experience requirement
