Stoughton Trailers, LLC is seeking a Controller to lead the financial statement closing process and ensure accurate financial reporting. The role involves developing a thorough understanding of the business, driving profitability improvements, and leading audit processes while presenting financial performance to executive leadership.

Responsibilities

Leads the financial statement closing process monthly by communicating a well-organized schedule; accelerates the process to produce accurate financial statements within five days or less
Generate accurate financial statements per Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and in alignment with the account and business unit structure established; implement effective error checks to validate accuracy
Develops a thorough understanding of the business, product lines, manufacturing processes and familiarity with team members to help proactively identify changes that may impact financial reporting
Build a well-designed system of controls and validate their effectiveness; ensure accurate master data around financial reporting
Prepares and clearly presents materials to an executive level audience regarding business performance
Leads the audit process so that it is well-planned, communicated and is completed on a no-surprise basis
Develops accurate standard costs that properly reflect manufacturing costs and thoroughly understand and explain all variances from standard costs; recommend actions to improve negative variances from forecasted results
Team with business units to identify ideas and develop business cases for improvement projects that contain fully vetted implementation costs and benefits
Drives profitability improvements through cost down projects: provide information to help drive the selection of project ideas, validate savings and ensure savings are achieved in business unit profitability
Teams with operations leadership to help track, report on and to optimize labor and overhead efficiency; facilitate regular meetings with each plant for effective communication
Leads the capital asset process including vetting business cases for all additions, timely tracking of asset dispositions and performing post-implementation reviews to ensure investment benefits were achieved
Drives working capital efficiency particularly around inventory; serve as a key member of the excess and obsolete inventory task force
Plays a key role in helping ensure inventory accuracy through monitoring cycle count results and conducting physical inventory counts
Calculates subjective reserves regarding warranty, allowance for doubtful accounts, workers compensation, healthcare and excess and obsolete inventory
Identifies and implements automation and system tools to improve efficiency and control
Drives process improvements to reduce struggle and increase efficiency – repurpose time from gathering information to analyzing information and providing useful information to run the business

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles within a manufacturing organization
Strong understanding of accounting principles, cost accounting, inventory management and manufacturing finance
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
