Trades Generalist (2 Positions)
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking a Trades Generalist to supervise laborers and assist with the operation and maintenance of DEC facilities. The role involves performing skilled trades such as carpentry and plumbing, operating heavy equipment, and providing documentation of work performed.

Responsibilities
Supervise laborers and other staff whose duties include facility maintenance and construction
Assist with the operation and maintenance of DEC facilities, including buildings, flood control projects, fishing access sites, and state forests
Must be able to operate light and heavy equipment and power tools safely and efficiently
Perform carpentry, plumbing, tree felling, and other skilled trades as needed
Both positions will require hauling heavy equipment to and from job sites
One position will be the primary lowboy tractor trailer operator for the region and will load, unload, and haul heavy equipment with a lowboy tractor trailer on a regular basis
Both positions will provide written documentation of work performed, as well as purchasing, fuel usage, mileage reporting, etc
Qualification
Required
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services
Must possess a Class A CDL and necessary endorsements at time of hire and maintain them for duration of employment
Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain
Must be able to work in remote areas
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
Must be available for emergency response
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies
Must possess a Class A CDL at time of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction
Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds
