Tech Research Controls Technical Specialist

FCA is seeking an experienced controls engineer to join their Stellantis Tech Research’s Propulsion Controls department. The role involves leading and developing high-quality controls algorithms and solutions for disruptive propulsion technologies, collaborating with research partners, and applying expertise in control systems and vehicle control systems development.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop high-quality controls algorithms and solutions
Collaborate with research partners on propulsion technologies
Utilize classical and modern control systems
Manage energy and charging systems
Develop vehicle controls including chassis and brake regen
Apply data science based controls techniques like AI/ML
Work on electrified propulsion or engine controls
Utilize sensors in feedback and feedforward control strategies
Implement integrated propulsion control strategies
Optimize propulsion and auxiliary load management
Characterize thermal management and energy efficiency

Required

Bachelor of Science in Applied Science, Control System, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering, or a related field
A minimum of 8 years of experience in controls, calibration, or systems engineering
Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK
Demonstrated technical problem-solving
Experience in electrified propulsion systems or control theory
Experience with automotive powertrain plant and controller modeling, simulation
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated application of technical excellence

Preferred

Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or related Engineering field from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent program
Understanding of classical and modern control disciplines with vehicle application
EV/Propulsion system calibration and/or embedded software experience
Experience with data analysis tools such as ASCMO, MDA
Experience with modeling tools such as GT Power, AmeSim, or other controls related co-simulation
Experience with prototyping tools from dSpace or ETAS
Experience in Research organization
