STAKING ENGINEER SUPERVISOR(ENERGY RESOURCES)
The City of Rocky Mount is seeking a Staking Engineer Supervisor to oversee a team of staking engineers. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring the accuracy of work orders and compliance data, and performing engineering design for gas projects.

Responsibilities
Responsible for supervising, hiring, training, disciplining, and performing evaluations for a staff of 2 staking engineer positions
Working supervisor and routinely work in any of the positions to keep us on schedule and ensure daily tasks are completed
Performs engineering design of main extensions, replacements, service renewals, new developments, and relocation projects; coordinates activities with other utilities
Supervise and participate in the daily completion and accuracy of all work orders, compliance data, safety records, and tracking and traceability data for all Gas Division
Responsible for reviewing data entered by staking engineers and field employees for accuracy and creating/reviewing monthly and annual reports for analysis by compliance and management
Performs network modeling scenarios to determine how potential system changes or new loads will affect entire system. This includes making sure the GIS model is uploaded and accurate within the GasWorks program
Provides direction and supervision to subordinates; ensures productivity, adherence to policies, effective performance evaluations, and individual skill development; practices and enforces safety rules and ensures proper use of personal protective equipment
Meets with potential customers and developers to implement gas main extension and natural gas incentive policies
Reviews and approves billing for damages and additional time/material work project
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field, OR
Three (3) years experience as a Gas Staking Engineer or equivalent role
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina
Knowledge of gas line construction and maintenance practices
Knowledge of mathematical equations for natural gas design and engineering
Knowledge of safety rules, practices, methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in the installation and maintenance of natural gas facilities
Knowledge of hand tools, test equipment, and small power tools
Knowledge of occupational hazards associated with the work
Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures
Knowledge of purchasing laws governing public contracts and equipment purchases
Knowledge of the Rocky Mount natural gas system, including the areas served by various gate stations
Skill in the interpretation and application of federal, state, and local policies, codes, and laws
Skill in the supervision of personnel
Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions
Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports
Skill in preparing clear and accurate maps
Supervises all Staking Engineers in the division
Work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes
Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely
Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces
Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
Ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine
Ability to apply pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
Ability to pick, hold, or otherwise work, primarily with the whole hand
Ability to bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees
Ability to raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position
Ability to use upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion
Ability to use upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward
Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
Ability to perform substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers
Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another
Ability to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
Ability to perform visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes
