Sr Engineering Tech - Corrosion Control Group
ComEd is a part of Exelon, a leading energy transformation company. The Sr Engineering Tech in the Corrosion Control Group will work independently on complex issues related to transmission and distribution equipment, conducting maintenance, testing, and repairs according to established standards.
Customer ServiceElectrical Distribution
Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on buried distribution and transmission lines, microwave towers, CTA & Metra reverse current switches, ISPs, etc., using the guidelines listed in the ComEd and Corrosion mitigation standards
Conduct basic hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of corrosion control equipment installed to protect buried transmission & HVD lines, as well as 4kV, 12kV & 34kV cables, CTA & Metra reverse current drainage systems, microwave towers. Testing is performed per the guidelines included in the ComEd and Corrosion mitigation standards
Assist with the restoration of malfunctioning transmission and distribution equipment, by performing the necessary hands-on testing & repairs as outlined in the ComEd and Corrosion mitigation standards
Complete required paperwork (reports, test data entry, map corrections, rectifier settings, etc.) as necessary to document work performed. & confer with T&S lines engineering
Receive, participate, and provide some on-the-job and formal classroom training including industry events
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3 or more years of technical experience, an associate's degree and 5 or more years of technical experience, or 7 or more years of technical experience or relevant education, if non-degreed or a non-technical degree
Successful completion of the TECH Test. (A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement.)
Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service
Testing Group positions require demonstrated ability to direct crews during maintenance or commissioning of equipment or systems
Distribution Testing positions require demonstrated ability using OJE process to independently investigate and test / troubleshoot & commission distribution automation system equipment
Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
Valid driver's license
Requires frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory
Must be available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day)
Knowledge of complex field test equipment
Relevant education/experience is knowledge and/or skills that may be acquired through job experiences or education programs similar to a formal technical degree program. Relevant experience includes experience in a military role (transmission, distribution, gas, power systems, etc.), project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility related experience, as deemed relevant to the role. Relevant educational experience includes company sponsored training programs (ex. PowerUp Academy) or other educational programs, as deemed relevant to the role. The equivalent relevant education / experience requirement is in addition to the position's minimum experience requirements
