Paralegal

Nelson Mullins, an AmLaw 60 firm, is seeking a litigation paralegal in their Pittsburgh or Atlanta offices to assist attorneys with commercial litigation and complex business litigation matters. The role involves proactive case management, maintaining court deadlines, and performing a variety of substantive paralegal tasks under attorney supervision.

Responsibilities

Assist attorneys with commercial litigation and complex business litigation matters
Maintain and monitor court deadlines for assigned cases
Take ownership of case calendars
Electronically file documents with the Court through the ECF system or local State Court sites under the supervision of an attorney
Perform online PACER research
Prepare drafts of pleadings, notices, and motions
Conduct research using various research tools, including the Internet and Westlaw
Flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet business needs

Required

Proactive with case management and organization
Knowledge and experience to move tasks forward with limited oversight
Perform a broad range of substantive paralegal tasks
Work directly with attorneys on complex commercial litigation and business litigation disputes
Maintain and monitor court deadlines for assigned cases
Take ownership of case calendars
Electronically file documents with the Court through the ECF system or local State Court sites under the supervision of an attorney
Perform online PACER research
Prepare drafts of pleadings, notices, and motions
At least 5 years of litigation experience in a law firm
Experience with case preparation from beginning to end
Understanding of a paralegal's role in the litigation life cycle
Strong organizational skills
Well-developed critical thinking skills
Very detail-oriented
Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs
Experience with eDiscovery databases
Strong sense of accountability
Takes ownership over projects and responsibilities
Resolves issues proactively
Ability to be a true team player
Technology pro with no problem learning new software
2 or 4-year degree and a paralegal certificate; however, work experience may be substituted for education
Ability to conduct research using various research tools, including the Internet and Westlaw
Flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet business needs

Preferred

Experience drafting medical chronologies
Knowledge of Georgia court systems, in addition to Pennsylvania
