Sr. Data Governance Analyst & Steward
Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) is one of the world’s leading oncology research organizations conducting community-based clinical trials. They are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Data Governance Analyst & Steward to establish and uphold rigorous data governance practices, ensuring that SCRI’s critical data assets are well-defined, high-quality, trusted, and effectively used across the research and clinical enterprise.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain SCRI-aligned data governance policies, standards, and controls
Ensure adherence to Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) guidelines
Participate in governance councils, stewardship forums, and related governance committees
Communicate governance priorities, risks, and performance metrics to leadership
Serve as the subject matter expert for oncology or research-related data domains
Understand SCRI data needs and business processes
Ensure consistent and compliant data usage across the organization
Promote the use of standardized definitions, reference data, and sound data practices
Identify and maintain the list of CDEs within the domain; ensure ownership, lineage, and quality controls are in place
Define, curate, and maintain business metadata, glossaries, and data definitions
Develop and maintain critical data element (CDE) documentation and classifications
Maintain metadata in the enterprise catalog (e.g., Alation) to improve discoverability and clarity
Create and maintain proactive and reactive data quality rules
Profile data and define business rules for specific domains
Review and monitor data quality dashboards/scorecards
Identify, log, triage, and resolve data quality issues; oversee remediation and cleanse activities
Maintain data quality issue repository and ensure timely resolution
Document end-to-end lineage of data assets, including source-to-target flows and transformations
Partner with engineering, BI, and architecture teams to ensure accurate lineage and system inventory
Support organizational efforts to promote data literacy, governance awareness, and sound data practices
Contribute to training materials and educational content related to governance, metadata, and data quality
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Organizational Management, Information Systems, or related field
7+ years of experience as a Data Steward or Business Systems Analyst, preferably in healthcare industry
Deep knowledge of data governance, stewardship, metadata management, and data quality practices
Strong understanding of healthcare and oncology data
Experience in data governance, data stewardship, data quality, or data management disciplines
Experience with regulatory environments (HIPAA/PHI/PII, SOX)
Proficiency with data catalog tools (e.g., Alation), metadata management, and SQL
Familiarity with metadata, data quality, stewardship, and compliance tools
High business acumen with the ability to navigate ambiguity and complex environments
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Capability to operate independently, influence stakeholders, and navigate complexity
Ability to influence diverse groups and drive data governance adoption
Comfort working in matrix environments across business and technical teams
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Exposure to analytics, AI/ML data preparation, data lineage tools, and enterprise data platforms
Self-starter with entrepreneurial mindset
