Project Management Specialist I-III

The Texas Department of Transportation is looking for a Project Management Specialist I, II, or III to join their Beaumont Area Office. The role involves coordinating the development and implementation of project management methodologies, specifically the Critical Path Method (CPM), and working closely with project managers to ensure project goals are met efficiently.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances
Ensures proper schedule controls are appropriately implemented and maintained
Monitors and reports on major milestones for the program portfolio
Reviews detailed project schedules to ensure compliance with Department policies, practices, procedures
Prepares special reports by researching, collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
Plans, develops and maintains detailed project schedules and facilities on-time completion of projects with the optimal level of resources available
Performs project monitoring and data collection to determine if a project is progressing according to budget
Assists in the change management process by evaluating the reason for the change to the project schedule, processing the Change Order request, and revising the project schedule baseline
Coordinates project meetings and conducts presentations
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Plans, develops, maintains, and makes recommendations concerning detailed project schedules and facilitates on-time completion of projects with the optimal level of resources available
Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks and supports management in evaluating options for corrective action
Monitors and reports on major milestones for the program portfolio
Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
Assists in conducting project audits, managing project schedules, and analyzing progress reported against the work schedules
Assists in updating and evaluating the accuracy of the project forecast by assessing the actual cost incurred and physical progress achieved for all phases of the project
Identifies risks, assesses their impact on projects and develops contingency plans to mitigate potential impacts
Conducts and makes recommendations concerning project audits, manages project schedules, analyzes progress reported against the work schedules and recommends actions to improve progress
Updates, evaluates, and makes recommendations concerning the accuracy
Oversees the change management process by evaluating the reason for the change project schedule and budget, processing the Change Order request, and revising the project schedule and estimate baselines
May serve as a lead-worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates for the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members' career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage

Required

Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
1 year project management or development, construction/engineering support, or related experience for Project Management Specialist I
2 years project management or development, construction/engineering support, or related experience for Project Management Specialist II
4 years project management or development, construction/engineering support, or related experience for Project Management Specialist III
Valid driver's license
Program/project planning, development, and management methodologies
Project scheduling and coordination activities
Critical Path Method for managing projects
Establishing plans and setting objectives and goals that support overall business strategy/results; anticipating and adjusting for problems/roadblocks
Overseeing and coordinating projects and program activities
Managing projects and project teams
Prioritizing and organizing work assignments
Communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees
Using computers, applicable programs, applications and systems
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; make decisions that support business objectives and goals
Sedentary work: Lift up to 10lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
Fingering- picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
Talking- expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Hearing- perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
Repetitive Motion- substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers
Close visual acuity- work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
Visual Acuity- determine work quality/ make general observations of facilities/structures
