Responsibilities
Design fully integrated luxury technology systems including:
Control and automation platforms (Crestron, Savant)
Lighting control systems (Lutron and compatible third-party control solutions)
Motorized window treatments and shading systems
Distributed audio and video systems
Residential and commercial theater systems
Network infrastructure supporting data, audio, video, and control
Develop cohesive system architectures that prioritize reliability, performance, scalability, and user experience
Review all client-requested integrations and determine feasibility, implementation strategy, and system impact
Synthesize complex system requirements into clear, executable designs
Design complete lighting control solutions, including:
Load-based, panelized, and hybrid lighting control architectures
Keypad layouts, engraving logic, scene design, and user interaction strategy
Integration of architectural, decorative, and third-party lighting fixtures
Design motorized shading systems, including:
Shade type selection (roller, drapery, specialty, exterior where applicable)
Control strategies and grouping
Integration with lighting scenes, automation logic, and environmental triggers
Produce detailed motorized shading takeoffs for bidding and procurement
Create documentation that enables accurate fabrication, installation, and commissioning by production teams
Design high-performance residential theaters and commercial cinema systems, including:
Projection and large-format direct-view display systems
Speaker layouts, audio system design, and performance optimization
Maintain working familiarity with:
DCI commercial cinema standards and equipment
ATMOS commercial licensing requirements and design considerations
Coordinate theater designs with architectural, acoustic, and mechanical constraints
Produce complete, professional design documentation, including:
System layouts and device plans
Riser and signal flow diagrams
Equipment schedules and specifications
Written scopes of work and design narratives
Ensure documentation is accurate, coordinated, and suitable for construction and execution
Design network infrastructure to support:
Wired and wireless data networks
AV over IP systems
Control and automation platforms
Develop Wi-Fi coverage strategies and access point layouts
Understand PoE requirements, VLAN concepts, bandwidth planning, and system reliability as they relate to AV and control systems
Partner with the sales team to:
Develop technical solutions aligned with client needs, budgets, and project constraints
Create sales proposals, alternates, and option packages
Support technical discovery and intake processes
Track and manage all design revisions throughout the sales cycle
Serve as the technical bridge between contract execution and production:
Finalize designs prior to production handoff
Ensure scope clarity before assignment to a Project Manager
Coordinate with general contractors, architects, lighting designers, and mechanical/electrical engineers
Participate in coordination meetings to support fully integrated building control solutions
Identify and resolve system conflicts during design rather than during construction
Qualification
Required
Extensive experience designing luxury AV, automation, lighting control, and motorized shading systems
Deep working knowledge of Crestron
Deep working knowledge of Savant
Deep working knowledge of Lutron lighting and shading platforms
Strong understanding of residential and commercial AV system design
Familiarity with commercial cinema standards and immersive audio systems
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit sufficient to review architectural and engineering drawings
Take measurements and verify dimensions
Perform basic edits or redlines for coordination
Strong working knowledge of D-Tools Cloud and D-Tools SI for system design, pricing, and documentation
Strong systems-level thinking and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects and design iterations simultaneously
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to mentor junior designers and contribute to internal standards and best practices
